Mark Ruffalo Reveals Brad Ingelsby's FBI Series 'Task' Resides in Kate Winslet's 'Mare Of Easttown' Universe, Hinting at a Potential Future Crossover

Oh, this is intriguing and sheds light on a lot. Mark Ruffalo spilled some beans during a recent BAFTA party while discussing "Poor Things." And guess what? One of Ruffalo's upcoming projects is an HBO series called "Task" – a new title for us, by the way. They're gearing up to shoot it in March, and if they manage to wrap it up this year, we might just have to sneak it into our Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2024 list.

The series unfolds in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, revolving around an FBI agent played by Ruffalo who leads a special task force. Their mission? To put an end to a series of drug house robberies orchestrated by an unsuspecting homeowner. If that rings a bell, you're on the right track.

Written and created by Brad Ingelsby, the mastermind behind HBO's critically acclaimed "Mare Of Easttown," the series is set in the same universe as its predecessor, and Ruffalo hints at the possibility of a connection between the two.

Ruffalo describes his character in "Task" as a good guy but complicated, damaged yet fighting for good. The mini-series, with Jeremiah Zagar as a lead director, explores murder and kidnapping in Philadelphia.

Ruffalo spills the beans that 'Task' shares the same universe as 'Mare of Easttown,' both unfolding in Philly. He teases the potential for these two series to intersect down the line but remains cautious, emphasizing that nothing is set in stone. He applauds the exceptional writing and playfully wonders if he can do justice to it.

This alignment makes sense, especially considering Kate Winslet's advocacy for a second season of "Mare Of Easttown." While Ingelsby initially had reservations about extending the story, the success of "Task" might offer a creative way to revisit the 'Easttown' character without a traditional sequel. Imagine a distinct mini-series featuring the original leads and a fresh crime storyline.

"Task" boasts an impressive cast, including Tom Pelphrey, Fabien Frankel, Emilia Jones, Raúl Castillo, and Salli Richardson-Whitfield as one of the directors. The anticipation for "Task" was already high, given Ingelsby's track record, but now, with the prospect of a connection to "Mare Of Easttown," we're even more eager. Here's hoping the show hits our screens late in 2024, with the cherry on top being a link to the beloved 'Easttown' universe. Fingers crossed!
